file Questions about features

Hello, Modelio seems like an interesting tool for me. I am learning BPMN for my new job so I am kinda new into this stuff. I am looking for BPMN tool which will have functions described below.
So I have some questions which I want to ask about features:

1. Can i export my diagrams to any vector graphic format? like .svg? And then Can I work with this format and edit it in program?
2. Are there layers which I can switch on/off? LIke in any graphic program. If there are layers Can I connect object between layers?
3. Is there any possibility to connect my active object with pool/lanes etc?
4. Any compability with Office? I dont mean any synchronization but moving my diagram to Word(graphic format etc.)
5. Can i verify my process if it comes to BPMN 2.0? I mean process validation, if everything on the diagram is correctly done in BPMN notation.
6. Can I desribe somehow any of my diagram elements with extra text or metadata?
7. Is there any option to automaticly generate documentation of the model which will describe my diagram step by step?
8. Can I generate BPEL code basing on my diagram/process? Compatibility with BPMN 2.0.
9. Can I generate work instruction basing on my diagram/process?
10. Is there option to automaticly numerate steps of my process/diagram?

I also had one problem when I tried the program. Is there any possibility to move my object between two connected with line? I mean let's say I have 2 tasks connected with one line. On that line, between those 2 tasks I want to add my third task. When I just drag and drop nothing happens. Do I really need to manipulate lines for this like deleting/moving/adding new ones?

Hi Cypek,

Here are some quick answers :

1. Can i export my diagrams to any vector graphic format? like .svg? And then Can I work with this format and edit it in program?
  • There is no SVG export. Only a a PNG export for Modelio diagrams.
2. Are there layers which I can switch on/off? LIke in any graphic program. If there are layers Can I connect object between layers?
  • There is no layers on Modelio diagrams.
3. Is there any possibility to connect my active object with pool/lanes etc?
  • I'm not sure to understand your question well, but there is Pool and Lanes notions in Modelio BPMN diagrams, and Pool and Lanes can be linked to other object, like UML elements for example.
4. Any compability with Office? I dont mean any synchronization but moving my diagram to Word(graphic format etc.)
  • Diagrams can be export as PNG.
On Modelio Commercial Edition there is a full Documentation generation feature which allow you to generate your model as a word document.
5. Can i verify my process if it comes to BPMN 2.0? I mean process validation, if everything on the diagram is correctly done in BPMN notation.
  • Modelio support a strong consistency control, trough its Audit feature. This makes sure your model is follwing the BPMN 2.0 notation.
6. Can I desribe somehow any of my diagram elements with extra text or metadata?
  • Notes can be added to any model element and displayed in the diagram.
7. Is there any option to automaticly generate documentation of the model which will describe my diagram step by step?
  • On Modelio Commercial Edition there is a full Documentation generation feature which allow you to generate your model as a word document. This feature also comes with a Template Editor feature allowing you to design your own document content if the on the shelv template don't suit your needs.
8. Can I generate BPEL code basing on my diagram/process? Compatibility with BPMN 2.0.
  • There is no BPEL generator for Modelio. Unless you make your own using the Modelio Studio feature of the commercial edition.
9. Can I generate work instruction basing on my diagram/process?
  • Same answer as before
10. Is there option to automaticly numerate steps of my process/diagram?
  • No, there is no such option for now.
  • I also had one problem when I tried the program.
  • Using the diagram palette, you can create a Task on a Sequence Flow, this will insert the Task in the line.

You can have a look at the following videos about Modelio and BPMN 2.0 :
